Tyre Change Bay for Stanmore Resources

Project Install Time: 13 Days

Location: Isaac Plains, Moronbah

Shelter Size: 552m²

Purpose: Tyre Change Bay

Structure Type: FreeSpan™️ Gable Shelter

As one of the country’s largest suppliers of metallurgical coals to global markets, Stanmore Resources has a strong track record of performance in developing, operating, and rehabilitating coal resources. Known for its high-quality mining practices and strong safety culture, Stanmore Resources sought a solution that met stringent OH&S requirements while facilitating efficient and safe tyre-changing operations.

The Project Brief

Stanmore’s Isaac Plains Complex had an existing jacking-type slab in use, but to meet OH&S requirements, they needed a suitable and safe shelter. They sought a shelter that provided a fit-for-purpose work area that was well-tested and safe and could be delivered as a turnkey solution by a reputable company.

Our Shelter Solution

With a tight deadline and site-specific requirements, the Allshelter team worked closely with the team from Stanmore to provide a full turnkey solution that would meet the site’s needs and local regulations. The shelter proposed to Stanmore was a:

  • FreeSpan™️ Gable Shelter measuring 24m wide x 23m long x 9.5m high
  • Side Openings measuring 13.5m wide for tyre machine movement
  • Designed and engineered to site-specific requirements, the project included designing 4x concrete foundations and 1.5m high plinths on which the shelter is mounted.
  • Engineered to Wind Region A

Navigating the Challenges

Throughout the process, a few challenges were faced. However, the teams at Allshelter and Stanmore banded together to ensure the process was as smooth as possible. Some of the challenges faced and site requirements were:

Tight Timelines:

  • Stanmore Resources wanted the project completed within 6-8 weeks, including site investigations, foundations, plinths, and commissioning. Allshelter met this challenge by completing the project on time and within budget, with minimal site disruptions.
  • Due to the deadline, an immediate response was required. Within days of the initial enquiry, our Sales Representative and our Project and Construction team visited the site.
  • We delivered a quick design turnaround with the shelter and crash barrier designs provided to Stanmore for approval within one week.

Plinth Requirements:

  • Plinths were designed as per a Level 2 Bridge Barrier to protect the shelter columns from heavy machinery movement, with an impact load of 90kN, considering the site’s complexity and ground conditions.

Mobilisations:

  • With the tight deadline, we could get a crew out to the site to start foundations within three weeks whilst the shelter was still being manufactured to minimise delays.

Quality Assurance:

We were able to provide the following as per the MIA Design and Construction WRAC Tyre Bay Document requirements:

  1. An Inspection and Test Plan (ITP)
  2. Certified and Stamped GA Drawings and completed “Form 16 Inspection Certificate”
